I'm not sure if you call it a scam, but I do know the sales pitch is very misleading and can suck you into purchasing something you are not financially committed to. I'v been a owner for nearly 15 years and have been annoyed everytime I use it. I actually have to deal with anger and regret every time I go on a BG vacation. I should be proud as a owner, but I'm not. Here are the top issues with being a Bluegreen owner:

1. Availability: Hard to schedule time and location at preferred places. Almost impossible. I went without because I just couldn't get into the place I wanted. Weekends are tough because they sell 3 night vacations to other folks. They'll tell you they don't give free rooms as timeshare tours, but again those small one time sales suck up owner availability.I have on occastion found Mon-Fri availablity, ***, nonowners get those weekends with the 3 day purchase. True owners should be first priority in getting those weekends.

2.Owner updates: You are actually pressured to go to a owner update once a year. They catch you when you check into your booked vacation. It's not actually a update per say. It's a hard sale pitch to sell you more points. Very annoying and they will suck you into discussing way over the hour they say you have to stay to get the free gift. This is very annoying when you'r e just there to relax and enjoy your vacation. Trying to get out of the owner meeting is put on the high sales pitch list too. They do it when you go to get your parking pass. I was told they weren't allowed to do the sales pitch anymore. Thats how they got me to go. First thing he did is to explain the lapse in my Travelers Plus and how I would not only have to purchase more points to qualify for it, but pay over $1000 to get the Travelers plus membership back. " I know, I've been a owner for 15 years. Not my first rodeo dud!" I got up and told my husband "Lets go" He convinced be to sit back down. He was so condescending, and then asked me "what makes you think this is a sales pitch? I'm just giving you updates" When I went to answer him, he spoke over me so I told him to "shut up" Then, get this, he told me he was going to have me escorted out. LOL, I wanted to leave in the fiirst place. Not my personality to speak to people in such a mean manner but I was pissed. 2 people promised me they wouldn't do that. After 15 years I think I now have the strenth to never do a owner update again. I'm sure they joke and laugh about getting an obstenant person like me to go.

3., No retail value whatsoever. I've actually been told it had resale value at one owner meeting and then zero at another. I will never forget when I asked one sales guy during a owner update "What did the cost of my initial purchase get me?" He actually shrugged his shoulders. No words, just some shoulders going up to his cheaks. On other occasion I asked the same question and the sale rep told me "You get to stay at bluegreen resorts." Lets face it, anyone can stay at a bluegreen resort if they play the game right. Typical offered through owners and small sales. I tried to sell it through Pinicle at a very low cost years ago. No hits whatsoever.

4. Fees: They charge for anything they can think of. I actually got married and changed my name. They charge $150.00 to change your name! Not one company I dealt with charged to change my name, not even my mortgage company.

5.Cost and maintenance fees. It cost me 17K 15 years ago. A lot cheaper then it is now. I'v put over 16K in maintenance fees and dues since I've owned it. Nowadays with the internet it is very easy to find good deal vacations, even at BG without being a owner. Now, most of the resort are very nice I must say. In summary, you do the math, does this seem like a econimical deal to you when you are put in a situation where you cant use it at your leisure as they lead you to believe?

Lets face it, it's ok if your committed to taking your vacations and you consider the nice condo you get. (most of the resort anyway) It is definatley not worth it if they don't make those vacations available. This is the main reason I do not like BG resorts timeshares. Paying for somthing you can't get is always a problem. Why is it not illegal? Not sure, but I think it's becaue they make some availibiility. They are obviously allowed to put the resposibility on the owner to be telepathical and know when to beat other owners to the punch. In my opionion its the over selling that should be looked into. They sell something that they don't have and that is illegal. Also, they should not be allow to charge any other fee except for a cancellation fee within a reasonable time frame. The fees are rediculously high. Not having fee's should just be a courtesy/benefit to a owner who paid substaintially to be a owner in the first place.

It's really not that econimical and I can afford it now. I've been laid off a couple of times and I managed somehow, but oh how stressful it was. I somehow paid the mortgage and maintenance fees but I couldn't afford to use it. Again, I paid for something I could not use. I've since paid off the mortgage. I could have done better not owning. I feel really bad for those who really don't have the funds to sustain the maintenance fees and mortgage payment. I'm not talking about folks who just don't want to pay for it, but those who really fall on hard times and need food instead of a timeshare. I see a lot of complaints when folks fall on hard times. They have no sympathy. They could do a lot better when it comes to those folks. I understand its a business, but geeze, loyality, sympathy and ethics for owners don't mean anything to BG.

Monetary Loss: $17000.

As a BLUEGREEN owner, I know what you are saying. BLUEGREEN needs more resorts for families.

With only 600+ resorts it is hard to get a week unless it is off peak time. Yes there are others to exchange with but I want my BLUEGREEN and what I am paying for. There are hundreds of thousands owners to use those 600+ BLUEGREEN resorts that I would like to use also.

I am learning to make it work but I don't like to have to deal with RCI a lot. ANONYMOUS?

This must be a sales rep, or someone in the business, because "BlueGreen" is a rip off, they offer you something that they in all actuality do not, I mean "DO NOT" provide.....

You don't have to be a sales rep to like the company. They are not perfect.

If you can't plan many months ahead ( no knock on anyone who can't), it's not for you. It does favor those who buy more points, but that's part of the advantage of having more. If you try to book less than 3 months out, you'll have to be lucky enough to catch someone canceling.

There are cheaper options and nicer options, but for us it's a good combination of both. It is also quiet and family friendly.
